3-9-2009 Bicycle Route for Historic Kenwood Neighborhood in St. Petersburg

One of the big commuter problems for residents of the large Kenwood neighborhood in St. Petersburg is that there is not an easy way to bike downtown.

Bikecycle

I think this route would make a great City of St. Petersburg sponsored bike path because:

  • it traverses already existing wide sidewalks through parks such as the Ed White's Hospital nature/walking trail, Woodlawn Park, Crescent Lake Park, and North Shore Park;
  • it goes under the freeway overpass at 13 Ave.;
  • it avoids the unbicycleable 9th and 5th Aves.;
  • it is more northerly than 1st Ave. S. bike lane which is too far out of the way for Kenwood residents.
