8-15-2008 Digital Car Audio
I UPGRAYYEDED my system.
I replaced my factory car stereo with a Dual XHD6425. I found an online coupon also for $20. Got a $50 rebate from hdradio.com. Crutchfield threw in detailed instructions and a car-specific wiring harness, which places like SoundAdvice charge $60 for; more than I paid Crutchfield for everything. Mainly, I wanted the aux-in and the "HD Radio", which is really more accurately described as digital radio. Which means no fuzz in the audio, and more channels per frequency. WUSF 89.7, for example, has an HD1 (classical music) channel, as well as an HD2 (talk/news/NPR) channel. It goes back to an analog seek if no HD signal is found. I'm finding that WMNF's digital signal doesn't reach as far as the regular signal, but in St. Petersburg, the digital signal comes in great. Still no ogg support, but my audio player (Palm Treo) can handle that using an ogg plugin for its PocketTunes 3rd party software.
