3-22-2010 Hooray for Health Care Legislation and Obama!
This is Obama's first major initiative for something that wasn't cleanup of Bush's mess; Bush's omnibus mess.
All sorts of great things in the legislation such as reduced taxes for small businesses (which I have), regulation of the healthcare industry, and some healthcare for our poorest citizens. And what about the cost that people are worried about? It's worth it, because we as a nation will pay less for health care. Even Republicans will have have better health as a result of this and benefit. Also, I don't recall either the Bush senior or junior administrations worrying about spending money (just as long as it's for war, it doesn't count). So let's celebrate this occasion and move on the tackling other problems this country has.
I have a one I'd like to put forth: how about a National ID? And you thought I was a stalwart liberal? Guess again. This country needs more free thinkers whose agendas cross party lines. A National ID would replace the need for our clunky and useless Census, allow policy-makers to plan for services, know exactly who is in this country and who shouldn't be, etc.. Why is that such a bad thing? If you're worried about big brother, they already have far greater ability to eavesdrop upon us than the information a National ID would impart. A National ID came up a lot after 9-11, and it was a good idea.
And onto the subject of partisan politics; would everyone stop listening to the neo-Cons, like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin? They have nothing in common with the Tea Party people who understandably want smaller, cheaper government. The neo-Cons are at the beck and call of multinational corporations and wish to project military power in order to do so. It's a horrible racket, and they exploit the familiar conservative/liberal divide in America to gain a support base from the right, latching onto things they really don't care about, like, lower taxes, family values, abortion rights, anti-gay legislation, etc.. That's a separate fight they have no real part in, but if they can eclipse the true Tea Party leadership with their own talking heads, they can steal the Tea Party constituency. And get their votes, and continue all the crap they've been doing for years.
