2-4-2008 The Circus Has Come to Town: Termite Tenting

We finally got it done. Our house looks like a blue and white Bavarian beer garden tent.
We had to clear out food and some dishes. The rest, we'll have to rinse. They pumped toxic Vikane (sulfuryl fluroide, developed specifically for dry-wood termites in the 50's by Dow Chemical) gas, 3.5 times heavier than air, into our house to a certain pressure, which required a tight seal. To obtain a seal with the ground, since it sinks and is akin to filling a swimming pool, I had to remove two planks from the deck, and they took down sections of the fence. We also had to heavily water the plants around the house to avoid burning. Apparently, mondo grass is sensitive to Vicane even 50' out. On a related note, oh, how I wish my name were Tata Güines, like the Cuban conga star.
