The sordid details...
Mostly, I've been continuing to build my data integration consulting business, Alexandria Consulting, LLC. This has involved many trips this Spring and early Summer. An Ultimate Frisbee tourney in Destin, FL, and a road trip to Wisconsin with Sonia and Melvin, my dog, have also rounded out my recent activities. For career/business reasons, I've been working hard to understand the underlying object-oriented framework of the Python programming language, especially Descriptors, which are the foundation of its object-oriented structure. Also, piddling around learning C, which is a whole different ball of wax.
The Wisconsin trip involved helping my parents out with a million projects at their cottages and at their home in West Bend, and attending a cousin's wedding in Tomah, WI. I can't really say, overall, that it was a fun trip, because there were a lot of ongoing family disputes/decisions in which I unwillingly had to get involved, and my parents were constantly trying to find large chores for me to perform. No wakeboarding was to be had (which reminds me of the snowboard-less Portland OR, trip I had in January/Feb this year) and Melvin tipped our canoe over in a storm forcing Sonia and I to swim. Melvin killed a raccoon and almost caught a fawn, had I not shouted at him, momentarily distracting him.
As always, Wisconsin never fails to remind me why I left. I almost kissed the ground in Florida once I reached Gainesville.
I'm sort of disturbed by the upcoming presidential election. On the Democrat side, I like Paul Dodd and Barak. Nice lads. On the Republican side, I like Ron Paul, essentially a Jeffersonian Republican against our big government's constant foreign meddling. I am saddened to think I have waited through 8 long years of George W. Bush only to arrive at having Hillary as the main Democratic challenger.
